MSP430

The MSP430 series from the manufacturer Texas Instruments is a 16-bit microcontroller with Neumann architecture (common address space for code and data). The microcontrollers distinguish for their low power consumption and are gaining popularity [1]. The selection of microcontrollers is huge. The prices can range from € 1.60 to € 10 and are mostly dependent on the peripherals, RAM and ROM memory and the number of microcontroller pins.

A highlight of the MSP430 series is the relatively new FRAM microcontrollers. FRAM technology has the advantage over conventional memory that it can be written as often as desired (1015 cycles), consumes less power, has improved resistance to radiation and electromagnetic fields, and flexibility [2].
